DESIGN GOAL: TO DESIGN MY OWN T-SHIRT COLLECTION

I’ve always been interested in fashion, I love sneakers and enjoy using clothing as a way to express myself. So, it felt like the right time to try designing T-shirts that I would actually want to wear myself. To create shirts that I personally find appealing (and hopefully others do too), I decided to draw inspiration from one of my favorite films: American Psycho (2000).

I started by rewatching the film, paying close attention to moments that stood out to me aesthetically. What immediately caught my eye was the interior of the main character Patrick Bateman’s apartment.

It’s clear that Bateman is a design-obsessed individual. While I fortunately can’t relate to most aspects of his character, I do share his appreciation for designer furniture. The interior design of his apartment appealed to me so much that I wanted to find out exactly which pieces were featured in his living room.

After some research, I discovered that there are four key furniture pieces that truly stand out, the cornerstones of his apartment:

In my view, these four pieces are what connect me to the film, and I thought they would make a strong thematic foundation for my T-shirt collection.

My idea was to design a four-piece collection, with each shirt centered around one of these furniture designs. Once I had that concept clear in my mind, I got to work and these are the designs that came out of it:
